BRINGS NEW LEADERSHIP AND SPIRIT OF COOPERATION TO ACHIEVE A THRIVING ATLANTIC CITY  

COMMUNITY AND ECONOMY 

 

 

Atlantic City—Frank M. Gilliam Jr. was sworn in as Atlantic City’s newest mayor today.  Taking the reins during a tumultuous period in the city, new Mayor Gilliam is enthusiastic about leading Atlantic City forward to reach its full potential of a thriving economy and community.  

 

“I am so honored and grateful for the opportunity to lead our great city—a city I truly love—on a new path of community and government cooperation to achieve a bright and prosperous future for our residents,” said Mayor Gilliam.   

 

“My administration will be focused on making Atlantic City the premier location for businesses, jobseekers, families, and current and future residents through a spirit of professionalism, responsible government, and cooperative partnerships.” said Mayor Gilliam.  “We will do this by working collaboratively with the business community to grow our economy and attract better paying jobs and by working cooperatively with our elected leaders in every level of government to fix what is broken, stabilize taxes and modernize services for our residents.”   

 

Mayor Gilliam has already assembled a Transition Team, which is co-chaired by local attorneys George Miller, Lloyd Levenson, and Nick Menas, to offer recommendations on Budget and Finance, Casino/Internet Gaming/Sports Wagering, Community Services, Education, Information and Technology, Personnel/Staffing, Planning/Zoning/Licensing/ Redevelopment, Public Safety, Recreation and Veterans’ Affairs. 

 

“Throughout my administration, I intend to consult with professionals and experts in every field to ensure that we are making the best decisions for the residents of Atlantic City.  I am committed to bringing the right people to the table to leverage community and government partnerships to help our city deliver better, more efficient services that support not only our economic development priorities, but most importantly, the residents of Atlantic City.”   

 

While further details will be released following the final recommendations of his Transition Team, Mayor Gilliam cited these immediate goals: 

 

  • Working with the new Murphy Administration to determine a suitable timetable for ending the State takeover and restoring a more appropriate state and city working relationship; 

 

  • Streamlining planning and development to enable suitable projects to advance more quickly to increase the commercial ratable base and ensure cohesive planning and development throughout the city; 

 

  • Working with public safety to achieve more community policing for safer communities and a safer tourism district; 

 

  • Offering better communications to the public about community services, public safety information, partnerships and other city accomplishments through the city website and other resources; 

 

“I look forward to tackling the many challenges ahead with the help of a strong and diverse community of Atlantic City residents, outside community partners and elected leaders throughout the city, county and state,” said Mayor Gilliam.  “Our success depends upon maintaining this spirit of cooperation and making decisions that serve the goal of moving Atlantic City forward into a better, more prosperous future.” 

 

 

Mayor Frank M. Gilliam Jr. is a proud husband, father and native of Atlantic City. He was educated in the Atlantic City public school system and graduated from University with a BA in Criminal Justice. He furthered his education and obtained a Master’s Degree in Social Work at the University of San Francisco. Prior to taking office as mayor, Gilliam served as a councilman at large and local business owner.
