Mayor Gusciora Announces Selections for Board of Education

TRENTON, N.J. – Mayor W. Reed Gusciora announced today that he be appointing residents Taraun Tice and Sadé Williams to the Trenton Board of Education.

Taraun Tice, an attorney and government service administrator, currently works at the New Jersey Department of Human Services as Chief of Staff in the Division of Family Development. Ms. Tice has a deep understanding of labor law and administrative functions, and is particularly knowledgeable in special education and early intervention services. She has trained welfare caseworkers, and also has served on task forces dealing with homelessness, addiction, and domestic violence.

“I’m honored to be given the opportunity to serve, and excited to use this platform for the advancement of our children, families, and the broader public school system,” Taraun Tice said. “Specifically, I hope to elevate the needs and rights of the special education population, as they are our most vulnerable and must be prioritized.”

Sadé Williams is pursuing her Pd.D. in Sociology and currently serves as an instructor at the Princeton University Preparatory Program (PUPP). Among other responsibilities, she assists students from Trenton and other feeder students with the college application process. She recently worked as a programming assistant at Kidsbridge Tolerance Center, designing mobile outreach programs for grades 3-6.

“I am excited to serve the students and families in the City of Trenton. I will continue to commit myself to issues around student and family access and engagement,” Sadé Williams said. “It is my hope that we can highlight and validate the narratives, opinions, and experiences of all of our students in the City”

“We had over a dozen applicants for these positions and we hope to find places for all of our candidates to serve,” said Mayor Gusciora. “I didn’t know these two women before they came in to interview, but they are exactly what the City needs. Tauraun and Sadé have the right backgrounds and experience that make them extremely valuable to the school board. That’s why I selected them. I want competent people rather than reliable votes. They’re qualifications are what got them here.”
