Mayor Gusciora to Kick-Off Fire Department’s Open House

Trenton N.J. – Mayor Reed Gusciora, in conjunction with Trenton Fire Department, will host a recruitment open house at 244 Perry Street, on Saturday, August 4th. The Mayor will be kicking off the event at 1:00 pm. The open house will follow until 4:00 pm.

The Trenton Fire Department is looking to jumpstart their recruitment for this coming cycle, and is encouraging all prospective candidates to come and enjoy the festivities. TFD will be providing refreshments and delivering live demonstrations.

“Trenton Fire will have stations to illustrate their daily duties,” said Gusciora, “Firefighters will be demonstrating the famous ‘jaws of life’, SCUBA operations, high-angle rescues, and much more. There will also be a table to speak with TFD representatives face-to-face about prospective job opportunities for city residents.

Their renowned museum, located inside the Firehouse, will also be open to the public.

“We need to ensure that Trentonians are joining the ranks of our first responders,” Mayor Gusciora said, “I hope that families will also enjoy the event. Young Trentonians should experience firsthand how the department serves our community. Becoming a fireman is an opportunity of a lifetime.”

Steve Coltre, acting Fire Director, was thrilled to be able to coordinate this event. “Our community needs to be involved. This a chance to begin a new era for our Department, and is a massive step in the right direction.”

Acting Director Coltre also stressed the need for bilingual applicants to better serve Trenton’s diverse population. Applicants can visit the NJ Civil Service Commission, at https://www.state.nj.us/csc/  for more details into becoming a Trenton Firefighter.
