Mayor Moench, Bridgewater Police Assign Police Officers to Every School in Bridgewater Leading Up to Graduation
Bridgewater, NJ – Due to increased activities and visitors surrounding school graduations, as of this morning, there will be a Bridgewater Police Officer in every public school within Bridgewater Township. This will remain so for the remainder of the 2021-2022 school year, which concludes on Thursday, June 23rd.
“This is an important safety initiative for our children and the schools they attend. School security is a complex issue, and a long-term solution will require unity and collaboration throughout our community,” said Mayor Matthew Moench. “However, this is absolutely necessary for this moment in time, and I thank the men and women of the Bridgewater Police Department for stepping up to make it happen.”
“I look forward to continuing the productive discussions I’ve had with Superintendent Beers and Board of Education President Singer, as we seek a more permanent solution to this issue,” he went on. “With so many graduations and other large-scale events happening throughout the district this coming week, this is a necessary step for the Township to take to ensure the security of the school district and the safety of our children.”
Bridgewater Township will fund this expanded police presence through the remainder of the week. The Administration will continue to work with the Board of Education to determine how best realize our common goal of effective security for every student and staff member attending a school in Bridgewater; next year and into the future.
