MAYOR MOENCH RECOMMENDS CAPTAIN JOHN MITZAK TO BECOME BRIDGEWATER’S 8TH CHIEF OF POLICE

Bridgewater, NJ – In a statement today, Mayor Matthew C. Moench is announcing that he has recommended Captain John Mitzak to the Bridgewater Township Council as his selection for the next Chief of the Bridgewater Police Department. Captain Mitzak has been serving as Acting Chief since the retirement of former Chief Paul Payne in late August.

“Captain Mitzak has performed exceptionally in his role as Acting Chief,” said Mayor Moench. “I have every confidence that John is ready to serve in the capacity of Chief, he has my full faith and support.”

Captain Mitzak has been a Bridgewater Police Officer since 1997 and has steadily grown through the ranks of the Department until being promoted to Captain in 2020. In his time in the Department, Captain Mitzak has had a well-rounded career serving in leadership positions in Patrol, Investigations, Traffic Safety, Emergency Management, Internal Affairs and Operations. He has received the Bridgewater Police Department Exceptional Service Medal and multiple Life Saving Medals.

“John Mitzak is a man of great character, and will be a great addition to the legacy of Bridgewater Police Chiefs,” continued Moench. “I am confident that the Council sees the same characteristics I see in the Acting Chief, and will vote to confirm him as Chief at the upcoming Council Meeting on October 17th.”
