Roque Donates 10,000 Dollars Towards Innovative Safety Initiative – Private Funding for Security Cameras Sought

West New York, New Jersey– Mayor Felix E. Roque announced the formation of the Safety First for West New York, a non-profit corporation, which will raise private funding for the installation of video security cameras and other pioneering security measures to provide for the safety of  the town’s residents. Mayor Roque made a personal contribution of $10,000.00 and asked area business owners and residents to follow his lead to provide private funding for his crime prevention camera initiative. The Mayor presented his personal contribution with Ana Luna, one of his running mates, to the non-profit corporation Safety First for West New York.

On February 2019, Mayor Roque together with Commissioner Colacurcio introduced a resolution and proposal to install video surveillance cameras in all of the town’s parks and high crime intensity areas in the community to assist the West New York Police in protecting the children and residents of the town. Unfortunately, this initiative was voted down by Commissioners Rodriguez, Cirillo, and Guzman.

Mayor Roque stated, “it is unfortunate that these commissioners did not support this important plan that was in the best interest of our town. It is sad when elected officials put politics before the safety of our residents. Due to the irresponsible action of Rodriguez, Cirillo and Guzman, I decided to help raise private funds to help install these cameras.  I will work closely with Safety First for West New York to help raise the necessary resources to protect our community.”

Nancy Nager, a trustee of the non-profit stated, “I commend Mayor Roque, it is very rare when a politician puts his money where his mouth is! I look forward to working with him to help raise private donations. The Mayor suggested setting up a “Go Fund Me Page” to help raise the monies for this important program and other safety initiatives and we will be following his recommendation.”

Commissioner Colacurcio, who voted for and co-sponsored the video camera crime prevention plan stated, “I am proud to support this great plan and to work with Mayor Roque and Safety First for West New York organization to help improve the safety of our community.”
