Mayor Yaede Wants Residents to Get Interactive with Town’s
Neighborhood Improvement Program through SmartPhone App

Keeping our community safe and clean is just a smartphone swipe away; and Hamilton’s Mayor wants your help!

As part of the kick-off to this year’s Neighborhood Improvement Program – the proactive effort where Township officials work cooperatively with residents in identifying various safety and quality of life issues across the community, Mayor Kelly Yaede is urging Hamiltonians to download and use the town’s HamStat smartphone app to report any matters that may need to be addressed.

“From the convenience of a smart phone, our HamStat app allows residents to take a picture, attach it to a service request that they can easily issue through the app and the appropriate Township officials will take care of the rest,” says Mayor Yaede.  “Our goal always is to see any issue be voluntarily corrected so our community can remain safe and clean.”

Ø  Program Successes

Mayor Yaede noted that property owners with any present issues are always provided a preliminary notice informing them of a matter that must be addressed, as well as a period of time in which it must be corrected.  Over recent years, the program has enjoyed a nearly 70 percent rate of success thanks to the preliminary notice and – typically – the majority of the remaining issues involve property structural issues that may take longer periods to rectify.

Some common problems that the program seeks to correct are housing safety issues (needed roof, window or structural issues), as well as zoning and health-related violations (vehicles parked on the grass, abandoned or unregistered vehicles, junk, rubbish and debris on properties or high grass).

Similar to past efforts, the Township will continue to publicize neighborhoods where officials will be present beforehand so that residents can proactively address any issues they are already aware of; however, reports issued through the town’s smartphone app or calls to the HamStat Call Center will assist officials in follow-up efforts.

Ø  Financial Assistance

As a reminder, residents who meet certain federal income criteria may be eligible for assistance in correcting certain issues thanks to Hamilton’s Housing Rehabilitation Program.  To find out more on that program, residents can visit HamiltonNJ.com/HUD or call 609.890.3675.

Hamilton’s Neighborhood Improvement Program is a collaborative effort with officials from Hamilton’s Health Division, Housing and Code Enforcement Division, Hamilton’s Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Office and the Hamilton Township Police Division Community Policing Unit.
