Soon after a jury found U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez guilty on all federal charges Tuesday, Assemblyman Greg McGuckin called out Democrats for their hypocrisy and called on the senator to resign.
“I am tired of hearing democratic politicians proclaiming that this is a sad day for our state. Every single one of them stood up and endorsed ‘Gold Bar Bob’ for reelection shortly after he escaped justice in his first corruption trial,” McGuckin (R-Ocean) said. “I believe this is a great day for New Jersey and will be even better the minute he leaves office. He should resign immediately and if he fails to do so, the Senate should reconvene within the next 48 hours to expel him.”
Only four other Senators have been convicted for crimes while in office. All four resigned. There have been 14 other expulsions in the Senate’s history, all for members who joined the Confederacy.
The U.S. Senate is not set to reconvene until Sept. 9. |
