McIver Receives Congressional Black Caucus PAC Endorsement
For Immediate Release— The Congressional Black Caucus PAC (CBC PAC), a long-established and influential group of Black Senators and House Representatives, announced today its endorsement of LaMonica McIver in her bid to become the first Black woman to represent New Jersey’s 10th Congressional District. The CBC PAC focuses on increasing the number of Black Members of the US Congress, promoting the participation of Black Americans in the political process, and supporting Non-Black candidates who champion the needs and interests of the Black Community.
“The CBC PAC is proud to announce its endorsement of LaMonica McIver for the United States House of Representatives in New Jersey’s 10th Congressional District,” said Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-New York), chairman of the CBC PAC, in a statement. “The 10th District had in Donald M. Payne, Jr. a committed and bold leader. LaMonica will make history as the first Black woman to represent the district and I know that she, like Congressman Payne before her, will fight every day for the hardworking people who call it home. In her role as Newark City Council President, she has been a tireless champion for housing security, supporting education, creating access to healthcare and fighting back against climate change. With so much at stake for our nation and the people of the 10th District, I know LaMonica will be a fierce advocate in Washington. I look forward to serving with her as we work together to move our nation forward.”
If elected, McIver would be the second Black woman to ever be elected to Congress from New Jersey, joining Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-12). Congressional District 10 has a rich history of Black representation with the seat long being held by the late Rep. Donald Payne, Jr. and his father, Rep. Donald Payne Sr., prior.
“I am profoundly honored to receive the endorsement of the Congressional Black Caucus, an organization with a storied legacy of advocating for equitable and inclusive policies that uplift all communities,” said LaMonica McIver. “As I work towards becoming the first Black woman to represent CD-10, it’s not lost on me that I follow in the footsteps of two great Black public servants, the late Congressmen Donald Payne Sr. and Donald Payne Jr. I draw inspiration from them and the Caucus’ history of promoting social justice and driving meaningful change. I am truly humbled and fully prepared to advance the Caucus’ mission in Washington, ensuring that all Americans have access to justice and opportunity,” she concluded.
