McKnight on COVID-19, State Action to Protect Residents

Assembly Homeland Security & State Preparedness Committee Chair Joined Governor’s Call to Discuss Outbreak Preparedness in the State

(TRENTON) – Assemblywoman Angela McKnight, who chairs the Assembly Homeland Security and State Preparedness Committee, talks about state preparedness for COVID-19 on legislator call with the Governor and encourages residents to exercise caution by following CDC guidelines:

“With the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus increasing across the country, we must make sure New Jersey is prepared to handle whatever is ahead of us. The call with Governor was informative and provided an overview of the steps the state is taking to prepare for any and all cases of COVID-19 if it does happen here in New Jersey.

“We’ve seen other states take steps to get ahead of the coronavirus. New York, cities in California have declared States of Emergency to ensure funding is available for counteracting the spread of COVID-19. We’re not sure if New Jersey is quite there yet; however, we should continue to prepare in every way in order to protect residents. We stand ready as chair and members of the Assembly Homeland Security and State Preparedness Committee to assist.

“Meanwhile, I encourage families to follow the suggestions provided by the CDC: wash your hands often, clean frequently touched surfaces; stay at home if you are sick or exhibit any sign of symptoms. Find out what precautionary measures your town, community and schools are now taking. Keep informed. Being proactive prepares us and safeguards our homes and our families from the spread of the virus.”
