MECHANICAL & ALLIED CRAFTS COUNCIL OF NEW JERSEY TO WITHHOLD FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO ELECTED OFFICIALS AND CANDIDATES
HAMILTON, NJ – The members of the Mechanical Allied Craft Council of New Jersey (MACC) have voted to stop making political contributions and providing endorsements to elected officials and candidates seeking office in the State of New Jersey, who refuse to support proposed gas pipelines.
The MACC supports clean water initiatives and efforts to protect our environment, but most important the MACC supports bringing jobs into New Jersey.
“Elected officials and candidates for political office must decide on their position – are they for or against the pipeline. Anyone taking the position against the proposed gas pipeline without merit is therefore denying New Jersey residents employment and the ability to earn a living,” said Edward Fedorko, MACC NJ Executive Director of Public Affairs.
The MACC opposes any pipeline that significantly damages our environment, but there needs to be a balance between environmental issues and our state’s economy. The MACC is in agreement with the environmental groups and we are not opposed to making sure that the pipeline is done in a safe manner. Elected officials and candidates who oppose clean/safe gas pipelines without merit will not be endorsed nor will they receive political donations.
“This is not just a Union issue, it is an issue of politicians saying one thing and doing another and the MACC and its affiliates will no longer stand by and allow this happen. The MACC will not only not endorse candidates, all political donations will stop immediately.
The MACC and its affiliates are willing to meet with all elected officials and candidates to discuss this issue, but until each individual sits down with the MACC executive board and is willing to publicly state their position and go on the record of supporting the gas pipeline all financial support will be stopped.
All elected officials and candidates have been sent a letter from the MACC as of Monday, March 20, 2017.
