Mehta Slams Bucco on Anti-Democracy Voting Recor

On Thursday, Senator Anthony Bucco voted against several bills that would help ensure that registered voters in New Jersey have the opportunity to have their vote counted in the 2020 general election. As the general election will be primarily vote-by-mail this year, millions of New Jersey voters will be casting their ballot by-mail for the first time. Instead of assisting voters during these unprecedented times, Bucco is creating unnecessary obstacles.

Recent 2020 General Election Bills Bucco Voted “No:”

  • S2598: Establishes “The Ballot Cure Act” to modify and establish various voting procedures.

  • S2580: Requires county boards of election to establish ballot drop boxes in each county at least 45 days before election; revises procedures concerning mail-in ballots for 2020 general election.

  • S2633: Extends ballot receipt from the county clerk’s offices and election certification deadlines; increases certain messenger and bearer ballot limits; requires certain information to increase public awareness and use of voting by mail.

“Once again, Bucco has voted in line with his party and against the voters of LD-25. Bucco is scared the people in LD-25 will vote him out so he will do everything in his power to prevent them from casting their ballots this general election. Let’s call it what it is – Bucco is suppressing voters. We need a State Senator that will lead with the voices of the district and not silence them,” said Rupande Mehta.

By voting against these bills Bucco has threatened our democracy. We are still in the middle of a pandemic and it is imperative to increase accessibility for voters. We need an independent voice that will represent the district in Trenton and it certainly is not Bucco.
