Menendez, Booker Announce Over $4M in Federal Funding to Support Paterson’s HIV Treatment Efforts

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Bob Menendez, a senior member of the Senate Finance Committee that sets national health policy, and Cory Booker today announced the awarding of $4,009,022 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to support the City of Paterson’s HIV surveillance and treatment efforts.

“Obtaining cost-effective care is critical for individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS and it is our duty to do all we can to help ensure they have access to the critical care and services they need,” said Sen. Menendez. “I’m pleased that this funding will allow Paterson to continue its vigorous efforts in ensuring those living with HIV/AIDS receive the comprehensive treatment they deserve.”

“With a significant population of residents living with HIV/AIDS, we must ensure New Jersey receives robust funding and the resources necessary to deliver comprehensive and efficient care to so many affected individuals,” said Sen. Booker. “This federal funding will provide New Jerseyans living with HIV the high-quality continuum of community-based care they need to help improve health outcomes while taking steps to help prevent future cases.”

The Emergency Relief Project provides assistance to areas that have been severely affected by the HIV epidemic. The goal is to enhance access to a comprehensive, effective and affordable care to low-income individuals and families who struggle with HIV.

The senators yesterday announced $17.5 million to support HIV treatment and prevention services in Newark and Hudson County.
