MENENDEZ LEADS HUGIN 57%-20% AMONG LIKELY HISPANIC NJ VOTERS WITH NEARLY 1 IN 5 STILL UNDECIDED, ACCORDING TO NEW TELEMUNDO STATIONS POLL

FORT LEE, NJ and BALA CYNWYD, PA– October 8, 2018 – United States Senator Robert Menendez (D) holds a nearly 3:1 lead over businessman Robert Hugin (R) among Hispanic voters in New Jersey according to an exclusive poll for Telemundo 47 New York and Telemundo62 Philadelphia conducted by Mason-Dixon Polling & Strategy, Inc. of Jacksonville, Florida.

The Telemundo stations poll was conducted between October 1 and October 4, with 625 registered Hispanic voters interviewed by telephone across the Garden State. All respondents indicated they were likely to vote in the November general election. The poll has a margin of error of +/- 4%

“The November elections are important to our viewers, their families and the many communities Telemundo and NBC proudly serve throughout the Garden State,” said Cristina Schwarz, President and General Manager of Telemundo 47. “This Telemundo stations poll offers important insights into the views of New Jersey’s Hispanic community as they prepare to head to the polls and cast their vote next month.”

“Partnering with Mason-Dixon Polling & Strategy enabled us to develop a clearer view of how New Jersey Hispanic voters feel about this all important race,” said Ric Harris, President and General Manager of NBC10 and Telemundo62. “It also helps us better understand what’s most important to our viewers, so that we can provide more dedicated coverage.”

Among the findings:

  • Statewide: Menendez leads Hugin 57% to 20%, with 19% of respondents remaining undecided. Libertarian Party candidate Murray Sabrin receives 3%.
  • Gender: Menendez leads Hugin 52%-23% among male respondents and 61%-17% among female respondents.
  • Issues: Respondents cited economy/jobs (21%), immigration (18%), honesty and integrity in government (15%) and healthcare (12%) as top issues of importance.
  • Right/Wrong Track: 34% of respondents state that the country is on the right track. 59% say that it is on the wrong track.
  • Immigration Policy: 21% of respondents approve of the Trump Administration’s handling of U.S. immigration policy. 73% disapprove.
  • Sanctuary Cities: 65% of respondents support efforts to create sanctuary cities that protect undocumented immigrants from deportation. 25% of respondents oppose such efforts.
  • DACA: 92% of respondents support extending the federal DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) program. 5% of respondents oppose such efforts.
  • TPS: 73% of respondents believe that the Trump administration should reverse the ending of TPS (temporary protected status) for immigrants. 13% oppose such efforts.
  • Economic Impact: 67% of respondents believe that undocumented immigrants help the state economy. 10% believe that undocumented immigrants hurt the state economy, with 18% believing that they have no effect on the state economy.
  • Economic Confidence: 37% of respondents are more confident about the economy, compared to a year ago. 27% are less confident. 29% feel the same as last year.
  • Trump/National Direction: 22% of respondents want their vote to support the national direction led by President Trump. 49% of respondents want their vote to change this direction. 27% of respondents do not see their vote having much to do with President Trump and his policies.
  • Immigration as a Voting issue: 48% of respondents said that immigration will be an important factor in their vote for U.S. Senate. 22% of respondents said that the issue will somewhat factor into their voting. 11% of respondents said that it will not be a factor in their vote.
