Menendez Statement on the Death of Michele Russo

NEWARK, N.J. – U.S. Senator Bob Menendez today released the following statement on the passing of former Hoboken First Lady Michele Russo:

“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Michele Russo.  Hoboken has lost an institution who spent much of her life trying to make the city she loved a better place, inspire young people and lift everyone up.

“A civic leader, Michele left her mark on several local organizations on which she served, the Board of Education and Hoboken Parking Authority.  But perhaps her greatest contribution was as a loving wife and mother, who helped her husband, Mayor Anthony Russo, beat cancer, and nurtured the values of public service in their three sons Michael, Anthony and Nicky, who would continue their parents’ legacy.

“It was an honor to know Michele Russo.  She was warm and caring, and will be deeply missed.  I cannot express enough my heartfelt condolences to the Russo family and to the residents of Hoboken whose lives have been improved thanks to Michele’s dedicated service to her community.”
