Menendez Statement on Passing of Former Assemblyman Peter Barnes

NEWARK, N.J. – U.S. Senator Bob Menendez today released the following statement on the passing of former Assemblyman Peter Barnes:

“I was saddened to hear of the passing of Peter Barnes, one day before his 90^th birthday. He was a fixture in the State Assembly who served his community proudly, justly and honestly. For over two decades he dedicated himself to the people of Middlesex County and he never lost sight of his goal – to improve the lives of those he served. Peter also heroically served in the U.S. Army, defending the country and people he loved and the freedom he knew we deserved.

“He was a dear friend to many, an extraordinary public servant and an honored war hero whose presence will be missed but whose legacy will live on. My prayers are with his family during this time.”
