Mercer Republicans United Announces Full Slate of Republican Candidates for Mercer County Commissioner, Surrogate and State Committeewoman

A group of Mercer County Republicans have joined together to form a team of candidates who are committed to winning, building the Republican Party and reaching out to every voter – no matter where they live. The candidate slate running under the ballot slogan “Mercer Republicans United” includes: former NJ Senator Richard J. “Dick” LaRossa for Mercer County Surrogate; Joseph A. Stillwell, Volodymyr Machevus and Michel F. Hurtado for Mercer County Commissioner; and former 15th Legislative District candidate Jennifer Williams for Republican State Committeewoman. The Mercer Republicans United candidate slate offers voters geographic diversity as LaRossa and Machevus both hail from Ewing Township, Hurtado and Williams are from Trenton, and Stillwell is a favorite son of Hamilton Township, NJ.

This unique candidate slate -made up of an well-regarded, elder statesman (LaRossa), three earnest, idea-filled, young Republicans (Stillwell, Machevus and Hurtado), and an energetic, experienced leader (Williams) – was created in the wake of the Mercer County Republican Convention after several young Republicans and others were denied entry to vote at the convention. As no Republican Commissioner candidates were offered at the convention, three young Republicans later bravely stepped forward to give voters a choice and promptly asked Republican State Committeewoman candidate Jennifer Williams to help form a slate with them. Surrogate Candidate LaRossa came on board to complete the Mercer Republicans United slate. The overarching purpose of the Mercer Republicans United slate is to drive a public interest agenda that is anchored in practical real world solutions – within the sphere of unity and inclusion.

Surrogate Candidate Richard LaRossa stated, “It’s been a long time since I’ve been publicly active in politics, however, the lack of any, let alone viable Republican candidates in Mercer County requires my participation. Prior to the slate I’m serving on, there were no Republican candidates on the county ballots. That leads to a total lack of accountability from both political parties. I’m proud to be on the ballot with so many young and dynamic candidates. Together, we will begin the road back to accountability for the current rubber-stamp Democrat candidates, as well as start to resurrect the dormant Republican party in Mercer County.”

Candidate LaRossa’s teammates also added their thoughts:

“During this election season, I hope to show that Mercer Republicans are united in promoting fiscal transparency, attracting business, and fighting to protect our environment.”
–  Joseph A. Stillwell, Republican Candidate for County Mercer Commissioner

“I am running for Commissioner because I want to provide a new perspective to Mercer County voters and especially our fellow Republicans. After speaking with voters, I know for sure that the two things they want to see are change… and unity.”
–  Volodymyr Machevus, Republican Candidate for Mercer County Commissioner

“I’m running for Commissioner to offer a true alternative choice for Mercer County and to show that the Republican Party is active and engaged.  So far, the reception we have received from voters has been extremely positive and encouraging to our efforts.”
– Michel F. Hurtado, Republican Candidate for Mercer County Commissioner

“Mercer County Republicans have the opportunity to choose an excellent slate of candidates ready to challenge the Democratic Party’s Politburo-style rule of our county and gain excellent representation on the Republican State Committee. The time for change is now and for the betterment of our party and our county, voters will choose the Mercer Republicans United slate this June.”
– Jennifer Williams, Candidate for Mercer County Republican State Committeewoman
