Mercury Opens Philadelphia Office, Welcomes Top Democratic Strategist Al Spivey

Veteran Political Operative Joins Formidable Government Relations Team

New York, NY. – Mercury, a leading global, bipartisan public strategy firm, announced the expansion of its Pennsylvania operation with the opening of a Philadelphia office, and the addition of veteran political operative Al Spivey.

Spivey, who most recently served as Chief of Staff to Philadelphia City Council Majority Leader Curtis Jones, Jr., joins Mercury as a Senior Vice President.

“We are pleased to welcome Al Spivey to Mercury,” said Mercury Partner Mike DuHaime. “Not only will Al further enhance our bi-partisan, best-in-class operation, he is an ideal addition to launch the firm’s presence in the City of Brotherly Love.” “In a few short years, Mercury has established itself as a leader not only in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, but across the country,” said Spivey. “I am excited to join this incredibly talented group and lead Mercury’s expansion into Philadelphia.”

During his nine years with Councilman Jones, Jr., Spivey served as political director and led strategic and crisis communications.

“I am thrilled to expand our offices to include my hometown of Philadelphia,” said Mercury Managing Director Mo Butler. “In my time working with then-Newark Mayor Cory Booker, I got to know Al Spivey well, and his expertise in Philadelphia and Pennsylvania politics are unmatched. Al’s skill set will add tremendous value to the work we do in the public affairs arena.”

In addition to his work with Councilman Jones, Jr., Spivey is a career political operative with over two decades of experience in political campaigns in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Most recently, Spivey led GOTV efforts for a number of statewide and local candidates, including Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf and Pennsylvania State Representative Morgan Cephas.

Spivey also served as a strategic adviser to Congressman Bill Pascrell’s successful re-election campaign in New Jersey. He was critical in securing Philadelphia-area endorsements for Obama for America in 2008, despite Hillary Clinton’s win in the state’s primary. Spivey served as the Executive Director of the SEIU NJ State Council from 1998 to 2002. Spivey is a Pennsylvania native with over 30 years of political experience and is a graduate of Millersville University of Pennsylvania.

“With the expansion of our Philadelphia office, Mercury has uniquely positioned itself as a key fixture in urban hubs ranging from Hudson County down to Philadelphia and beyond,” added
Mike Soliman, Mercury Partner. “I’m confident that Al will play a key role in providing and implementing high quality solutions for our clients.”

“Al Spivey is a fantastic addition to our growing Pennsylvania practice,” said Mercury Senior Vice President Vince Galko. “Al is a political powerhouse in Philadelphia with a reputation of bringing people together to achieve results. I know he will be an invaluable asset to our Pennsylvania team, and I look forward to working closely with him to continue to expand our business.”

Philadelphia marks the third Mercury office in Pennsylvania, joining the company’s offices in Harrisburg and Scranton. Spivey joins a growing bipartisan team of political experts whose knowledge of the inner workings of government at all levels is unparalleled. Mercury’s national presence includes offices in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Washington D.C., Florida, California, Tennessee, and Montana.
