Michael Mulcahy to run for school board

Community Leader says our Bayonne Kids Deserve Better

BAYONNE -Michael Mulcahy believes that great communities are built upon great schools, that’s why he has declared his intention to run for the Bayonne Board of Education in the November election.
The 47-year-old father of two was born and raised in Bayonne by two public school teachers. Growing up, he learned first-hand of the struggles that good teachers face every day, trying to deliver the best possible education for their students.

In recent years, Mulcahy developed growing concerns that Bayonne Schools weren’t quite as good as they could be. “Let’s face it,” said Mulcahy, “we spend a lot of money on our public schools but our teachers’ morale isn’t where it should be, our district is top-heavy with administrative expenses, we don’t get anywhere near the amount of state aid that we should and our physical plant is showing its age—The bottom line is that we’ll get the kind of public schools we’re willing to accept.” Mulcahy, who has a reputation as a tenacious advocate for causes he believes in, promises to be a passionate and persistent fighter for Bayonne Schools. “If elected, I won’t rest until our schools are the very best they can be,” said Mulcahy.

Michael Mulcahy attended Horace Mann School and Bayonne High
School. He also studied communications at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Michael is a founding member of the Shamrock Society of Bayonne and the Bayonne Bombers Rugby Team. He serves as a committee member of the Bayonne St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee and the Annual All Saints Academy Memorial Golf Outing.

Michael volunteered as a Commissioner of the City of Bayonne Construction Board of Appeals. He has over 15 years of experience as a code enforcement and zoning official, where he often fought to protect tenants from unscrupulous landlords. He has worked in Bayonne and several other New Jersey municipalities.

Michael’s two daughters attend grammar school in Bayonne and are actively involved in many extracurricular activities throughout town, which has piqued his interest in running for Trustee on the Bayonne Board of Education.

“The time has come for the community to come together in a concentrated effort to fight for fair and complete funding for our Bayonne schools,” said Mulcahy. “We must also work together to improve our teachers’ morale and get them the resources they need to do their job. And finally, we need to make sure that every school tax dollar paid by our citizens is spent in an effective and responsible manner to the benefit all of our students.”

I pledge to work with anyone who shares my vision to make our schools the best they can be,” said Mulcahy, “our community deserves no less.”

Election day is November 6th, 2018.
