Mico Lucide Post-Convention Statement

Mico Lucide’s Statement Following Today’s Atlantic County Democratic Convention: “I would like to thank all of the members of County Committee who voted to support my campaign for County Clerk today. Today’s vote will result in Mayor Jiampetti receiving preferential ballot placement in the Primary, which will offer her a 35% vote share based on ballot placement alone.* From the beginning, my campaign has been devoted to enriching our democracy and empowering those who have felt left out of the election process. This has not changed. While my decision to continue through the Primary may frustrate some who voted today, my campaign’s message continues to resonate with voters who are frustrated with establishment politics and our skewed ballot design. “

“While I have every intention of continuing through the Primary, I will do so cordially, continuing to speak no negativity of or toward Mayor Jiampetti as this election plays out. The people will decide our nominee, and I anticipate they will do so based on the message that resonates with them the most. I trust that the party and Mayor Jiampetti will respect my intent to allow democracy to play out in the voting booths, as our voters deserve to have a choice.”

* A study by Professor Julia Sass Rubin found that, on average, a candidate receives 35% more votes in the Primary when they have the County Line. (https://www.njpp.org/publications/report/does-the-county-line-matter-an-analysis-of-new-jerseys-2020-primary-election-results/)
