MICO LUCIDE SECURES LOCAL AND STATE ENDORSEMENTS FROM NJ WORKING FAMILIES, GOOD GOVERNMENT COALITION, ASHLEY BENNETT, & OTHERS

In the only contested race in Atlantic County’s Democratic Primary, Mico Lucide has secured endorsements from several prominent organizations and individuals in his bid for County Clerk. He has earned the support of New Jersey Working Families Alliance as well as the Good Government Coalition of New Jersey, an organization whose mission is to bring greater transparency, accountability, and participation to New Jersey’s state and local governments.

He has also secured formal endorsements from Sue Altman, Executive Director of New Jersey Working Families Alliance, Ashley Bennett, former Atlantic County Commissioner for District 3, Barry Brendel, Former Vice Chair of New Jersey for Bernie 2020, and Carlo Favretto Jr., Delegate for Progressive Democrats of New Jersey, Atlantic County Chapter.

“Atlantic County has been plagued by inconsistencies and influenced by politics for decades,” said Altman. “The only fix is a County Clerk who is even-handed, competent, and willing to bring the office and its resources into the 21st century. Mico Lucide will be the transformative County Clerk that Atlantic County needs.”

Altman has led New Jersey Working Families Alliance since 2019 and is one of New Jersey’s most visible and respected progressive voices.

“Mico’s candidacy will energize people and usher in the next generation of leadership Atlantic County needs,” said Bennett, “He is an excellent candidate that will set the standard for what people should expect from their county clerk.”

Bennett, whose win over Republican County Freeholder John Carmen in 2017 garnered national attention, has stepped aside from politics, but has made an exception to endorse Lucide.

“What you will get if you elect Mico Lucide is simple,” said Brendel. “He is a fighter for everyday people, someone who will work to make the office better and more responsive to people’s needs, someone who will put your needs first and last. The result will be better services and a more efficient and cost-effective county government.”

Brendel founded Our Revolution New Jersey in 2016. He was integral in both of Bernie Sanders’s presidential campaigns in New Jersey and is a lauded progressive strategist in New Jersey.

“Mico Lucide’s passion and desire to ensure fairer ballots, voter education, and equitable accessibility to the Atlantic County Clerk’s Office will resonate with voters, and certainly reflects the values of fellow New Jersey Progressives,” said Favretto.

Carlo Favretto Jr. of Buena Vista is an active Progressive in the Democratic Party and is currently running to serve on Buena Vista Township Committee.

Lucide is running on a platform to make civic information accessible to all people in Atlantic County. His plan involves direct outreach to engage with communities, especially those with low voter turnout; modernizing the County Clerk’s office and website to make both more user-friendly and welcoming; and utilizing the authority of the County Clerk under Title 19 to change the ballot design to the more straightforward office-bloc style, which is used by Salem and Sussex counties, as well as most states.

Lucide has worked as a research assistant at Stockton University’s William J. Hughes Center for Public Policy archiving legal and organizational documents for the school President’s Office, and organized the Older Adult Education program for the Stockton Center on Successful Aging, for which he also prepared monthly grant reports and annual grant redeterminations. He currently works in IT for a locally-based multinational corporation, where he has managed teams for equipment and software rollouts. He feels that constituent relations and being a resource for people is central to his purpose in life.

Lucide will vie for the Democrat nomination during the virtual Atlantic County Democratic Convention on March 21st. The Primary election is June 8th.
