Middlesex County celebrates Black History Month and more this February with a spectrum of arts & culture events

Residents can enjoy a range of free exhibitions and events

virtually promoted by the Middlesex County Arts Institute

WHAT:            The Arts Institute of Middlesex County is presenting, promoting, and supporting a multitude of arts and culture events, exhibitions, and shows throughout the month of February. The month is packed with exciting programming primarily centered around Black History Month. While the pandemic has affected in-person events, the Arts Institute is partnering with organizations to provide engaging and thought-provoking experiences. The County’s Arts Institute has helped partners navigate this new environment with engaging and thought-provoking experiences. These events can be accessed virtually and are free to enjoy for all County residents and beyond.

February’s event highlights include:

• February 2 @ 7 pm – Zimmerli Art Museum and Windows of Understanding; a screening and panel discussion around “The Moral Responsibility of the Artist” by James Baldwin
• February 3 @ 4 pm – Black History Month Art & Story Time by the Civic League of Greater New Brunswick. Explore artwork and life of the Romare Bearden, a 20^th century American artist of African, Cherokee, and Italian descent
• February 10 @ 7 pm – Edison Public Library and the NAACP Metuchen Piscataway Area Branch; Harriet Tubman and Ona Judge: Two Women Who Resisted
• February 11 @ 3:30 pm – Beatmakers & Barrier Breakers: Creating Communities through Music hosted by local DJs, producers, and emcees as they discuss the importance of creating music
• February 4, 11, 18, 25 @ 6 pm – Windows of Understanding – Wellness & Healing Sessions; a series of interactive sessions around different mediation and yoga practices
• February 14-March 7– George Street Playhouse, “Bad Dates” – a one-woman rom-com featuring 600 pairs of shoes and a string of unsatisfactory dates…
• February 2 -February 28 – Crossroads Theatre Company, “Home with Crossroads: The Colored Museum” written by an emerging playwright named George C. Wolfe Crossroads is proud to present the PBS broadcast of The Colored Museum
