Mikie Sherrill Calls on Assemblyman Jay Webber to End Support for Over-Taxation

Fairfield, NJ—Six months ago the House of Representatives voted to raise taxes on middle-class families in New Jersey. Today Democratic nominee for Congress Mikie Sherrill calls on Assemblyman Jay Webber to end his support for over-taxation on New Jersey residents:

“When Congress targets New Jersey, there shouldn’t be any question as to how our leaders react. And yet, Assemblyman Jay Webber vocally supports this bill that raises taxes in New Jersey, explodes the national deficit, increases healthcare premiums, and threatens Social Security and Medicare. At a time when families are worried about how they are going to pay their bills or afford their homes because of this plan, we need leaders who oppose federal tax increases on our residents.”

More than half of taxpayers in New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District take the state and local tax deduction and depend on SALT to lessen their tax burden.

In addition to raising our taxes, the GOP tax bill adds $1.9 trillion to our national deficit. Republicans in Congress are using the deficit crisis they manufactured to attack Social Security and Medicare. Just this week, the House of Representatives unveiled a budget proposal that will slash these programs, breaking a promise to our seniors who have paid into this system for their entire lives.
