Mikie Sherrill Heads Toward November with Strong Grassroots Network and Record of Legislative Achievement
A Proven Fighter for New Jersey, Sherrill Laser Focused on COVID-19 Relief and Recovery, Protecting and Expanding Healthcare, Restoring the State and Local Tax Deduction, Caring for Veterans, and Funding for the Gateway Project
West Caldwell, NJ — Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill tonight secured the Democratic nomination for the 11th Congressional District of New Jersey after running unopposed in the primary election. Since her historic victory in 2018, Congresswoman Sherrill has remained steadfast in her commitment to get things done for New Jerseyans. Whether on the floor of the House or in town hall meetings with her constituents, Congresswoman Sherrill has listened to everyone’s ideas and brought people together. She has had four bipartisan bills signed into law by the president during her first term.

“I promised the people of the 11th District that I would fight for them and work to solve our nation’s greatest challenges,” said Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill. “I’ve been laser focused on protecting and expanding access to healthcare, lowering prescription drug costs, improving our infrastructure, removing the state and local tax deduction cap, and supporting our veterans.

“Our community has been tested over the last several months. As an epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen too many fall ill, shutter businesses, and lose jobs. But we have also seen countless examples of the strength, compassion, and grit that make us proud of New Jersey and hopeful for our future. Those Jersey values guide me in Congress now. There is more work to be done. Raising four school-aged children, I know how important it is to build a brighter future for families in our state. I’m honored to serve this community, and I look forward to doing the hard work that is needed to earn the support of our residents in November.”
Congresswoman Sherrill joined her grassroots network of volunteers on Zoom tonight to thank them for their support. More than 500 volunteers have already joined the campaign, putting Congresswoman Sherrill on strong footing for November.
Congresswoman Sherrill will face Rosemary Becchi in the general election, a corporate tax lobbyist who was previously a candidate for the 7th Congressional District before party bosses pushed her to the 11th District. As a lobbyist, Ms. Becchi fought for the 2017 tax law that capped the state and local tax deduction, forcing New Jerseyans to pay thousands more in taxes. That law also threatens $1.9 trillion in cuts to Medicare and Social Security. She was a lobbyist for a company that defrauded Medicare, resulting in hundreds of millions of dollars in losses to taxpayers. Ms. Becchi, who has donated thousands of dollars to Senator Mitch McConnell’s campaign coffers, is a staunch supporter of the Senator and his anti-New Jersey policies.
