Mikie Sherrill Lands Another Major Endorsement from New Politics

Today, New Politics a bipartisan organization that supports military veterans and national service alumni who run for public office, announced their enthusiastic support for Mikie Sherrill a former Navy helicopter pilot, Federal Prosecutor and mother of four for Congress in New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District.

In their endorsement, Emily Cherniack,  Executive Director and Founder of New Politics said of Sherrill, “As Washington politicians continue to put their personal agendas ahead of what’s best for our country, we need a public servant like Mikie Sherrill to take on the tough fights in Congress. Mikie served her country with honor and knows firsthand what it means to put the interests of ordinary Americans ahead of politics. She’ll be a strong advocate for the residents of New Jersey’s 11th district and always put them first.”

In response to her endorsement from New Politics,Democratic candidate and former Navy pilot and federal prosecutor Mikie Sherrill released the following statement: “I am honored and excited to receive this endorsement from New Politics. I made my first oath to serve our country when I was 18, and I am ready to take my next pledge alongside the veterans and service alumni who serve in public office due to New Politics’ support. Now more than ever, we need leaders who know how to put problem-solving before personal politics, who stand by their service-oriented values, and who work as a team to protect our nation and improve the lives of our constituents.”

New Politics joins VoteVets, EMILY’s List and Congressman Seth Moulton in their support of Sherrill’s run to replace 22-year Republican incumbent Rodney Frelinghuysen. Sherrill is providing the toughest challenge by any Democrat to date.  In the first six weeks of her campaign Sherrill raised more than $245,000.

Mikie Sherrill is a former Navy helicopter pilot, a former federal prosecutor, and a mother of four. After spending nearly 10 years on active duty flying missions throughout Europe and the Middle East, she earned her law degree from Georgetown University. She eventually joined the U.S Attorney’s Office in New Jersey and worked to help prevent crime and develop trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve. Mikie and her husband, Jason, live in Montclair, New Jersey, where they are raising four children ages 11, 10, 7, and 5. Mikie coaches her daughter’s lacrosse team and manages her son’s soccer team.
