BLOOMFIELD — Mikie Sherrill released the following statement after President Trump’s Joint Address to Congress:

“Last night’s address held no real plan to lower costs, or to make life better for the middle class. Yet again, it was all about Trump and his grievances, not about you or your family. That’s because since he was sworn in, the president has pushed for devastating cuts to Medicaid health coverage for seniors and children, laid off thousands of military veterans, and implemented a new tariff policy that will raise household costs for everything from housing and cars to gas and groceries. And now, it appears he’s gearing up to cut Social Security to give tax cuts to billionaires like Elon Musk, who just called these retirement benefits a ‘Ponzi scheme.’

“Here in New Jersey, we must fight back and chart our own path forward — to build more housing and crack down on landlords who illegally fix their prices, take action to lower grocery prices, and protect our rights and freedoms, including abortion rights. It is clear: we can’t afford a Republican governor without the backbone to stand up to Trump. I will stand in the breach, defend New Jersey at all costs, and make Trenton work for working people.
