Mikie Sherrill Statement on President Trump’s Withdrawal from the Paris Accords

In response to President Trump’s decision to withdrawal the United States from the Paris Accords former Navy helicopter pilot and federal prosecutor Mikie Sherrill released the following statement:

“President Trump’s decision to abandon the Paris Accords is incredibly shortsighted and dangerous. Not only will this decision leave our country and New Jersey more vulnerable to the effects of climate change, but will forfeit America’s position as a leader in clean energy development to countries like China. As a Navy Veteran, I traveled the world and know the type of instability that follows natural disasters. Climate change is real and is a direct threat to our national security and our future economic growth.

Here in New Jersey, communities are still feeling the effects of Superstorm Sandy and the toll that storm took on property, the economy and people’s lives. Considering Representative Frelinghuysen voted for anti-environmental legislation 92% of the time in the last year alone, it’s no surprise he is giving President Trump a pass on this issue that will severely impact the future of this country. Enough is enough, we need a leader who will fight for our future.”
