Mitchell Cobert: We Cannot Remain Silent

Mitchell Cobert, Democrat for Congress in New Jersey’s 11th District, spoke out against Trump’s hateful comments.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

We Cannot Remain Silent

When Trump said yesterday that immigrants “aren’t people. They’re animals” I was angry and ashamed. We cannot allow this type of rhetoric. It is dehumanizing and cruel.

Where is the indignation from all of our elected officials condemning these hateful, prejudicial, and bigoted comments? Where is Rodney Frelinghuysen; who is still our elected official? Why has he not spoken out?

When our elected officials remain silent, they enable bigotry and prejudice. We must all speak out each and every time we hear hateful words.

As Americans, we pride ourselves on our diversity, which we value here in the 11th District.

I treasure all of the people that I have met during my campaign and know how hurtful this language is.

I will work to develop a fair immigration system which protects our national security without being racist or xenophobic. Our country needs to find bipartisan solutions that benefit all of us and put immigrants, particularly Dreamers, on a path to citizenship.

I am calling on all of our elected officials to speak out publicly, condemn, and denounce Trump’s remarks.
