Monmouth Clerk: Important Information for the  Nov. 6 General Election

Important Information for the  Nov. 6 General Election

Extended Hours, New Mail-In Ballot Deadline

FREEHOLD, NJ – The Monmouth County Clerk of Elections and the Board of Elections will have extended hours leading up to the Nov. 6 General Election for voters to apply for and cast mail-in ballots. These County Election Offices, located at 300 Halls Mill Road, Freehold Township, NJ 07728, are open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with extended hours as follows:

  • Friday, Nov. 2 open 8:30 a.m. until 8 p.m.
  • Saturday, Nov. 3 open 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Registered voters can apply for mail-in ballots, in person, during these hours. The deadline for applications for the Nov. 6 General Election is 3 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 5.

Importantly, the deadline for return of mail-in ballots to the County Board of Elections for counting has changed. The new Statewide Vote by Mail law passed in August allows mail-in ballots to be received and counted by the County Boards of Elections up to 48 hours after close of the polls on election night, provided that these ballots are post marked on Election Day. This means that the election results on election night may not include the final mail-in ballot count because ballots will continue to be accepted 48 hours after the polls close. The County Clerk’s Office will post the final mail-in ballot results as they are received from the Board of Elections.

Voters who have already received a mail-in ballot, either because they requested one or because the new Vote by Mail law required that they be sent one, must remember that they will not be able to vote on the voting machines on Election Day. These voters must either vote the mail-in ballot and send it back to the Board of Elections for counting, or they can vote on a paper provisional ballot at their polling locations on Election Day.

If any voter has lost or misplaced his or her mail-in ballot, please contact the County Clerk’s Elections Office immediately by calling 732-431-7790 or emailing ClerkOfElections@co.monmouth.nj.us.
