Monmouth Dems: Welcome our new Executive Board Member

Chairman David G. Brown is excited to announce the appointment of a new member of the Monmouth County Democrats Executive Board, Deana Gunn.

The newly created position of Municipal Outreach Coordinator will work with the Executive Director, Chairperson and the Board to determine which municipalities could use more assistance and provide support during election season. In this role Ms. Gunn will also conduct proactive outreach with municipalities throughout the year to better understand the challenges and strengths of all municipalities and report back to the ED, Chair and Board to better foster community within the organization.

I’m honored and excited to be appointed by the Chairman and join the Board. Supporting Democrats throughout the county is important for the future of our party. All politics are local. Party support, communication, and local races are the keys to growth. I’m looking forward to working with all of the municipalities to building a better, bluer, Monmouth County.” said Deana Gunn.

Chairman David Brown stated “We are thrilled to have Deana take on a more active role in the day to day operation of the County Party. Deana has shown a high level of dedication to the party and effectiveness in running her local democratic organization, the Matawan Democrats.”

Please join us in welcoming Deana to the Executive Board.

Learn more about Deana Gunn

Deana Gunn is currently serving her second consecutive term on the Matawan Borough Council—a seat she has held since 2018. She’s worked hard to build on the work of many before her, and hold a Democratic majority. Previously she was the Council President, the Vice Chair of the party in 2018 and currently serves as the Chairwoman of the Matawan Democrats.

Prior to her political career, she honed her diverse business skills at a large financial institution where she serviced wealth management organizations and led change management campaigns. Here, she learned the importance of a customer’s experience and has applied that insight to all of her roles. After a career pause to care for her children, a personal health crisis inspired Gunn to be certified health coach. She helped women who struggle with autoimmune diseases take back their health and power through dietary and lifestyle changes. The coaching mindset she developed has helped her transition into politics, and she applies all the skills she has learned along the way to get things done!

During her first term, Deana brought back the Environmental Commission to protect Matawan’s natural resources and started the Economic Business Development Commission to support the business community. She serves on the Finance Committee responsible for annual budgeting responsibilities and is the police liaison to the Council. Deana understands the intricacies of municipal government and how important effective messaging and communication can be for meeting goals.

Gunn, a life-long learner and passionate advocate for impactful public policy, is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Public Administration at Rutgers. When she’s not studying or attending a political event, she’s spending her free time with her husband Todd, her two children, Tyler and Lyla, or enjoying a good comic book movie.
