MORRIS COUNTY DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE STATEMENT ON THE END OF THE “LINE”
MORRISTOWN – The Morris County Democratic Committee applauds the decision by Judge Quraishi to end the “county line.” We welcome the opportunity for a more inclusive democratic process for candidates to seek office at all levels.
“Today is a good day for democracy!,” said Chairwoman Amalia Duarte. “This decision follows on the heels of Morris County holding the most open and transparent endorsement process of any county committee in the state. We invited all candidates to address our convention. Then, we held a secret vote and abided by the choice of the nearly 600 county committee members, elected officials, municipal chairs, caucus leaders, executive board, and state committee members.”
“Fairness is essential to democracy, and ending the line levels the playing field. It will create opportunities for more diverse candidates and those without connections to run for office,” said Duarte. “This will lead to a fairer and more democratic political system in New Jersey.”
