Morris County Democrats: Republican Mayor of Mine Hill Suppressing the Vote

Republican Mayor of Mine Hill Suppressing the Vote

It has come to our attention that Republican Mayor Sammy Morris of Mine Hill has been taking actions which will have the effect of confusing voters in his town and suppressing the vote.

“Reminder there is NO in-person voting on Nov 3.  Return your ballot asap using the secure ballot box @ 10 Robert St, Wharton by Wharton PD.”

The Mayor is using the town’s “Swift Reach” texting system to give misinformation, as shown above, to voters and telling them that they cannot vote on November 3rd and can only vote by mail. This may be negligence or it may be a desperate attempt to get Republicans to submit mail in votes.  (It is noteworthy that both within Morris County and throughout New Jersey, Republicans are not returning their vote by mail ballots at anywhere near the rate that Democrats are.)

Among other allegations are that people employed by the town of Mine Hill are calling seniors citizens while on duty for the town and trying to assist them with mail-in ballots.

This is blatantly illegal and unethical.

Mayor Morris must cease and desist immediately from giving the voters in his town misinformation concerning the election process.  He and his town must further cease and desist from having town employees on their own time making calls to seniors about voting.

MCDC, in consultation with our candidates, reserves the right to take legal action should this continue in Mine Hill.
