Morris County Democrats: Valori for Mayor: Putting Parsippany Last

PRESS RELEASE

PARSIPPANY – In the coming weeks, ousted Parsippany Councilman Lou Valori is expected to launch his mayoral campaign. Valori’s finance reports largely show a campaign funded by developer cash. This includes the developers of a controversial residential project in Powder Mill Plaza which has yet to be approved by the township.

As Council President, Valori was best known for limiting public comments to three minutes, shorter than the five-minute speaking period standard at most public meetings. Following his refusal to allow Parsippany residents more time to speak, Parsippany voters ousted Valori by over 800 votes in the 2017 election. This marked the most lopsided defeat for an incumbent Republican Councilman in township history.

Valori has also been thoroughly rejected solely by Republican voters in his runs for office. In 2016, as the incumbent Council President of Morris County’s largest town, Valori lost the Republican primary for Morris County Freeholder by a more than 2-to-1 margin. Valori did not even carry Parsippany.

Valori also lost Republican primaries for Freeholder in 1998 and 1999.

Luckily, Parsippany residents already have a champion in Mayor Michael Soriano. Since taking office, Mayor Soriano has worked to clean up the fiscal mess Valori helped create as Council President. That important work needs to continue to keep Parsippany moving in the right direction.

Valori has long put Parsippany last in his flailing political career. This is no time to support his failed leadership. Parsippany voters of all political parties have rejected Valori several times. It’s crucial that they show that same good judgment once again.
