Lucia Galdi & William J. (Bill) Smith Seek to Grow Current 5-1 GOP Majority

MORRIS PLAINS, NJ – The Morris Plains Republican County Committee today announced that petitions have been filed for Lucia Galdi and William J. (Bill) Smith to appear as the Republican team for Borough Council. They will be running for two seats on the town’s governing body. A victory by the team of Galdi and Smith would give Republicans 6-0 control of the Borough Council.

“Our team will join the existing Republican majority in serving as an aggressive counterweight at the local level to the extreme policies coming out of Trenton,” said the candidates. “We are committed to keeping Morris Plains the envy of Morris County – safe streets, great schools, outstanding recreation and a true Community of Caring!

Lucia Galdi has been a resident of the Borough since childhood. She is a former Human Resources Manager for Honeywell. Lucia has participated in many volunteer opportunities, including boys’ hockey (MHS 2014 & 2016 State Champions), and the Marlins Swim Team. For the past eight years, she has been an integral member of the Morris Plains Board of Education, having served 3 years as Vice President. She has been Chair of the Personnel Committee, participated in Negotiations, budget sessions and is our liaison to the Morris School District. She and her husband, Frank Swiontowski raised two sons in Morris Plains.

Bill Smith and his wife, Maryellen, moved to Morris Plains over five years ago and very quickly became active participants in the Community of Caring. Bill is a seasoned communications and public affairs executive with diverse experience in developing policy strategies in government, law enforcement, transportation and healthcare. He currently serves as a volunteer on the Borough’s Planning Board. Bill and Maryellen co-chaired the Morris Plains Republican Club’s Fall Banquet that honored Mayor Druetzler last year. He is the Recording Secretary of the club and a member of the Executive Committee. The Smiths welcomed their first child, Will, in December.

The candidates are unopposed in June’s primary.
