Morris Township Mayor Cathy Wilson
Endorses Jeff Grayzel in LD25 State Senate Race
Mayor Cathy Wilson of Morris Township announced her endorsement of Jeff Grayzel in his race for the N.J. State Senate in the 25th Legislative District (LD25). In 2020 Wilson became the first Democratic woman to serve as mayor of Morris Township.
“All three of our Dem candidates for NJ State Senate in LD 25 are excellent. I will work hard to support whoever becomes our eventual nominee,” stated Wilson.
“As we review our candidates’ qualifications and consider whom to select, here is my perspective:
I think Jeff is the Dems best shot at beating Tony Bucco in November. Jeff is highly skilled at running an effective campaign. His experience with municipal governance is a huge asset.
While all of our candidates support values and positions that clearly contrast with Bucco’s (for example on health care, the environment, and gun legislation), my opinion is that Jeff has the best chance of actually winning the seat and enacting the changes we seek.
I encourage you to support Jeff in the primary.”
“I am honored to receive Mayor Wilson’s endorsement. Cathy has run numerous elections herself and knows what it takes to win an uphill Republican-leaning election as we face in Morris County,” said Grayzel. “Democrats need to nominate the candidate best suited to beat Tony Bucco in November. Because if we don’t defeat Bucco, then none of our Democratic platforms or positions will matter.”
In 2019 Grayzel became the first Democratic mayor of Morris Township after winning the 2018 election by almost 1,500 votes – and a margin of victory of 16 points. He is the only Democrat ever to be elected to a second term, and now a third term in Morris Township.
Among his accomplishments as mayor were maintaining a flat tax rate in Morris Township, improving infrastructure by extending municipal sewer services, emphasizing shared services initiatives to help save taxpayer dollars, and engaging residents through improved communications. Grayzel currently serves as chairman of the 5-town Joint Municipal Court, which is frequently cited as one of the top shared services in all of New Jersey.
