Mosquera on Maternal Health Awareness Day

(TRENTON) – Each year, Maternal Health Awareness Day is observed on January 23 to help draw attention to the importance of safe and healthy pregnancies. Chairwoman of the Assembly Women and Children Committee Gabriela Mosquera (D-Camden, Gloucester) released the following statement:

“With one of the highest rates of maternal mortality in the nation, it is incumbent upon all of us in New Jersey to do everything we can to limit racial disparities in maternal healthcare and prevent mothers from losing their lives in childbirth.

“Today is an important reminder that our efforts to improve maternal health throughout New Jersey must – and will – continue. My fellow legislators and I are committed to improving the resources available to women to help ensure their health and well-being during pregnancy and childbirth.

“Together medical providers, government officials and advocates must work together to ensure the safety of expecting mothers and infants in New Jersey. We must work collaboratively to improve the alarming racial disparities within our State.”
