Mukherji Applauds Supreme Court Decision to Overturn Sports Gaming Ban
(TRENTON) – Assemblyman Raj Mukherji, one of the sponsors of the sports gaming law (A-3711) from 2014, praised today’s Supreme Court decision to overturn the ban on sports betting and the benefits it will bring to the Garden State:
“I am ecstatic that the U.S. Supreme Court declared PASPA unconstitutional and sided with New Jersey. This is a major win for our state and for common sense. With Americans betting $150 billion on sports every year, but 97 percent of it is being done illegally, we can now move forward with regulating and taxing sports betting and provide better for some of our most vulnerable residents.
“The future of Atlantic City and our racetracks also just got brighter. Today’s decision will further fuel the momentum to rebuild A.C., allow racetracks to be more competitive, and expand gaming options in a prudent manner outside of A.C.”
