Muoio Applauds Resolution of Three-Day Impasse and Resulting Compromise
(TRENTON) – Assemblywoman Elizabeth Maher Muoio (D-Mercer/Hunterdon), one of the lead sponsors of the Horizon compromise legislation, on Monday applauded the resolution of the three-day long impasse that had prevented a state budget from being signed into law.
“As I have said all along, my main concern with any Horizon-related legislation is the manner in which any reserves deemed in ‘excess’ would be used. This compromise addresses that concern by ensuring that our first obligation is to those who paid into those reserves – the ratepayers – rather than confiscating their hard-earned dollars.
“By basing this legislation on a model that has proven effective in neighboring Pennsylvania, we will boost transparency and ultimately prevent any needless uncertainty at a time when many feel healthcare is under threat at the federal level.
“Our goals of protecting Horizon ratepayers, who comprise almost half of the state, and safeguarding progressive budget priorities, have been thoroughly met with this new agreement. I’m proud to stand alongside the Speaker in fighting for these causes.”
