Murphy Wins Sussex County Democrats’ Endorsement
Vernon — The members of the Sussex County Democratic Committee this afternoon voted to endorse Phil Murphy for governor, providing him the opportunity to run under the party’s line on the June 6 primary election ballot.
Murphy’s victory among the party grassroots is his seventh straight. In addition to Sussex County, he also has the endorsement of the Democratic committees in Bergen, Essex, Middlesex, Monmouth, Union, and Warren counties.
“Our committee spoke overwhelmingly in endorsing Phil and his positive vision for progressive leadership that works for every community,” said Leslie Huhn, Sussex County Democratic chairwoman. “Phil knows that we need a governor who pays attention to every resident, and doesn’t see the world as only shades of blue or red. In Sussex County, our communities need new jobs, our schools need funding, and our environment needs protecting. We need Phil to stand up for our values.”
Sussex County is home to more than 19,000 registered Democrats, and increase of roughly 20 percent since the 2013 primary.
“I am honored and humbled to have the support of the Sussex County Democrats and look forward to working with them in the months ahead to continue growing the party and on achieving our goal of putting our state back on the right path,” said Murphy. “New Jersey will only work when all 21 counties are positioned for a better future. I am committed to making sure that Sussex County shares in that strength.”
