Murphy’s Wind Port Plan Should Be Matched by Commitment to Stopping LNG Terminal

Today Governor Phil Murphy announced a massive new wind power port in South Jersey, which would manufacture turbines that could supply clean energy projects all along the East Coast.

Ironically, the wind port would be just a few miles down the Delaware River from the site of a proposed fossil fuel export terminal in Gibbstown, which would be used to transport fracked gas via ships to other countries.

In response to this news, Food & Water Action organizer Jocelyn Sawyer released the following statement:

“Governor Murphy’s wind port is exactly the kind of historic investment in clean energy that New Jersey and the nation needs right now. But any progress on clean energy would be totally undermined if his administration approves any new dirty fossil fuel infrastructure. The Gibbstown fracked gas terminal proposed just a few miles north of this wind port would ramp up drilling in Pennsylvania and create more dependence on fossil fuels around the world. Murphy cannot have it both ways. If he wants to seize this moment to show that New Jersey is ready to lead on climate and clean energy, he needs to stop the Gibbstown fracked gas terminal.”
