National Association of Social Workers Endorse Tamara Harris for Congress
Professional Organization Joins Growing List of National Groups Supporting Harris’ Campaign
(MAY 23, 2018—NEW JERSEY) Tamara Harris, the progressive candidate for the Democratic nomination to Congress from New Jersey’s 11th District, has received the endorsement of the National Association of Social Workers-Political Action for Candidate Election (NASW-PACE).
Harris herself is a social worker by training, having earned her master’s degree in social work (MSW) from New York University (NYU). Her professional experience counseling and coaching families going through crisis and life transitions is reflected in her public advocacy positions for affordable health care, affordable education and jobs for our most vulnerable populations.
“We believe Tamara Harris best represents the values of the social work profession,” said Mary Jane Lundgren, Chair of NASW-PACE. “NASW-PACE is proud to endorse social worker Tamara Harris in her bid for New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District. She is pro-choice, supports LGBT equality and is passionate about addressing poverty.”
“I am thankful to the NASW for its endorsement,” said Harris. “In my practice as a social worker, I have encountered many people who, with a little support, can achieve their goals and contribute greatly to our communities. It’s time we send representatives to Washington who understand the realities of the diverse constituents in New Jersey.”
