NEI Statement on PSEG ZEC Application

The following statement can be attributed to Maria Korsnick, president and chief executive officer at NEI:

“We are at a tipping point in our nation when it comes to states determining their clean energy goals; yet, U.S. electricity markets, including PJM, fall short in valuing the benefits of carbon-free sources like nuclear energy. Strong policies that support the crucial role resilient and reliable, carbon-free nuclear energy brings to our nation’s infrastructure are essential in meeting our energy needs and climate goals.

“Nuclear plants across the country remain at risk of closing as they continue to face economic challenges. State policymakers in New Jersey, along with Connecticut, Illinois and New York, have acted to recognize the carbon-free attribute of nuclear energy.

“Today, as PSEG submits its application, NEI strongly believes New Jersey is making a prudent investment to help achieve its clean energy future through its ZEC program. The actions taken in New Jersey, and across the nation, help secure the future of our nuclear power plants, while providing affordable, carbon-free electricity, creating thousands of high-quality jobs and contributing billions of dollars to the communities they serve.”
