Network Statement on NJ Mortgage Payment Relief

Following Governor Phil Murphy’s announcement that financial institutions will provide mortgage forbearance and financial protections for New Jerseyans facing economic hardship as a result COVID-19, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Housing and Community Development Network of New Jersey (the Network) Staci Berger issued the following statement:

“Thank you Governor Murphy for issuing additional protections for homeowners and renters during this health crisis. Today’s announcement regarding mortgage forbearance combined with the moratoriums on evictions and foreclosures are critical steps for protecting our residents by keeping them in their homes. We applaud the Governor’s reminder today that no one can be removed from their home during this crisis, and his direction that landlords should extend the help they are getting to their tenants as well.

“This pandemic has shown us just how much housing is healthcare. As we navigate through this difficult time together, we look forward to working with the governor and members of the Legislature to advance policies that keep homeowners and renters safe and in their homes long after this crisis has passed.”
