New DCCC Polling: Kennedy Pulls Ahead in Race Against Van Drew

Kennedy Leads Van Drew 51-46 in Highly Competitive Race

Fresh DCCC polling released this morning in National Journal shows Amy Kennedy leading Jefferson Van Drew (51-46), with Vice President Biden and President Trump statistically tied (46-47). It is notable that the poll shows Kennedy above 50% in a district President Trump won by 5 points in 2016. The live caller survey, conducted August 4-6, polled 400 likely November general election voters with a margin of error of ±4.9 percentage points.

From Hotline:

NJ-02: A DCCC poll shared exclusively with Hotline (Aug. 4-6; 400 LVs; +/-4.9%) showed health advocate Amy Kennedy (D) leading Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R), 51%-46%. The poll also showed Trump leading Biden, 47%-46%. (Hotline reporting) A poll from the Democratic-aligned House Majority PAC conducted by GSG (Aug. 1-5; 400 RVs; +/-4.9%) showed a tighter race, with Kennedy leading Van Drew, 46%-45%. (Politico)

Last month Cook Political Report shifted the race from Tilt Republican to Toss Up, a sign of the growing strength of Kennedy’s campaign.

DCCC Spokesperson Christine Bennett released the following statement:

“Amy Kennedy is a former teacher, a mental health advocate and a mom of five that South Jersey voters can trust, unlike say-anything political opportunist Jefferson Van Drew. Amy was born and raised in South Jersey, and she will always put South Jersey’s best interests first. Kennedy is in a strong position to flip this seat come November.”

Kennedy was added to the DCCC’s highly competitive Red to Blue Program in July having surpassed aggressive goals for grassroots engagement, local support, campaign organization and fundraising.
