New Direction NJ Launches Petition Drive Supporting Grassroots Progressive Demand to Put Millionaire’s Tax Up for a Vote

TRENTON, NJ — New Direction NJ is fully supportive of the grassroots effort announced yesterday by progressive activists from throughout the state to call on Senate President Steve Sweeney and Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin to put the Millionaire’s Tax up for a vote in both houses of the legislature this month. Recently several Democratic members of the State Assembly have publicly stated that they would support the Millionaire’s Tax if it was posted for a vote, and grassroots activists want them to put their money where their mouth is and demand that their legislative leaders schedule a vote on the bill.

NDNJ has launched a public petition drive where New Jerseyans can join the fight to tell legislative leaders to put the Millionaire’s Tax up for a vote: https://ndnj.forwardaction.io/sign/putitupforavote

“Democrats in the State Legislature have said consistently that the Millionaire’s Tax is the right policy to make our state a fairer and more equitable place while providing much needed tax relief to millions of middle class residents,” said Philip Swibinski, spokesman for New Direction NJ. “We wholeheartedly agree with the members of the Assembly and the progressive activists who stand with the 70% of New Jerseyans supporting tax fairness, and we join their call for Senate President Sweeney and Speaker Coughlin to post the Millionaire’s Tax immediately for an up or down vote. This is a clear choice — stand with the middle class and all those working to get there, or protect millionaires.”
