NEW JERSEY ASSEMBLYWOMAN BRITNEE N. TIMBERLAKE FIRST EVER INDUCTEE IN HOUSING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT NETWORK OF NEW JERSEY’S HALL OF HEROES FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING EFFORTS

(TRENTON, NJ) — OCTOBER 12, 2018 — On Friday, New Jersey Assemblywoman Britnee N. Timberlake was inducted into the Housing and Community Development Network of New Jersey’s Hall of Heroes as its first ever inductee for her advocacy this past budget cycle to restore $15 million to the State’s Affordable Housing Trust Fund. The ceremony took place at the Network’s Annual Community Development Conference “Under One Roof,”  which was held at the Hyatt Regency hotel in New Brunswick, NJ.

“I’m humbled and honored to be inducted into the Housing and Community Development Network of New Jersey’s Hall of Heroes. I commend the Network’s efforts in revitalizing distressed communities throughout our state and I look forward to continuing to work with them throughout my administration to ensure we make affordable housing possible for everyone in need of it,” said Timberlake.

Toward her efforts to advocate for affordable housing, Timberlake has also sponsored crucial legislation aimed at creating housing equity including Bill A4414 which would require any developer who is building 20 or more residential housing units to allot 20 percent of them for low to moderate income families. The bill is gaining momentum in the General Assembly and is currently under committee review.

She has courageously fought for affordable homes in her very first state budget. Under her leadership, an amendment was included in the budget to preserve $15 million of the State’s Affordable Housing Trust Fund for housing production. Assemblywoman Timberlake is not only a friend of the Network but she is a true hero to our sector,” stated the Housing and Community Development Network of New Jersey.

Britnee N. Timberlake was elected as the youngest freeholder to the Essex County Freeholder Board in 2014. Each term she was unanimously voted as Freeholder President (2015-2017). Timberlake is now running in a special election for the District 34 New Jersey Assembly; a seat she was appointed to in January 2018 to complete the term of Assemblywoman Sheila Oliver the current Lt. Governor of the State of New Jersey. Timberlake is the youngest state legislator. She represents the 34th District, which encompasses Clifton, Montclair, Orange, and East Orange. She serves on the following legislative committees: the Joint Committee on Economic Justice and Equal Employment Opportunity; the Education Committee, and the Science, Innovation and Technology Committee.
