New Jersey Citizen Action applauds US Supreme Court decision to take up Affordable Care Act appeal
Highland Park—New Jersey Citizen Action released the following statement today in response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to hear a federal court appeal regarding the Affordable Care Act. The case had originally been brought by Republican state officials who argued the ACA was unconstitutional, a stance that has been backed by the Trump administration.
“The Supreme Court’s decision today to take up this case demonstrates how critical the Affordable Care Act is to our nation’s health care,” said Maura Collinsgru, New Jersey Citizen Action Health Care Program Director. “Millions of Americans have gained access to coverage and essential life-saving services and protections under the ACA. But the Trump administration and the GOP have continued their unrelenting assault on this landmark law through any means at their disposal, including asking federal judges to invalidate the ACA in its entirety. We can’t risk the lives of millions so some elected leaders can score political points, and we hope this decision by the Supreme Court to take up the case will put an end to this line of attack. We are grateful to those who have stood up to defend health care, including New Jersey Attorney General Grubir Grewal, Governor Phil Murphy, and many champions in our Congressional delegation and State Legislature. We urge the Court in its wisdom to do the same.”
