New Jersey Civil Service Commission Opens Applications for 2024 Law Enforcement Mentoring Program

TRENTON, NJ – As part of its ongoing efforts to promote diversity and inclusion within law enforcement for the second year, the New Jersey Civil Service Commission (CSC) is accepting applications for the 2024 Law Enforcement Mentoring Program. The mentoring program was established to assist candidates interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement.

The purpose of the mentoring program is to assist law enforcement applicants through the civil service application process, and to help address any obstacles unique to their circumstances. Activities for the program are primarily administered in a virtual/remote format.  The program will incorporate various activities including subject matter-focused workshops, group discussions, and career and goal planning. The mentoring sessions will occur monthly via a group mentoring process.

“CSC will continue to uphold our commitment to supporting diversity in New Jersey’s workforce in both state and local government,” said Allison Chris Myers, Chair/Chief Executive Officer of the New Jersey Civil Service Commission. “We are proud to continue the mentoring program into 2024, building upon our partnership with law enforcement agencies and affinity groups. Together, we will strive toward developing pathways of opportunity with the goal of creating a workforce that reflects the diversity of the state.”

Benefits of the mentoring program include supporting law enforcement applicants through the civil service application process, and to help address obstacles that may impede their access to law enforcement job opportunities.

“Initiatives that promote diversity in law enforcement provide excellent opportunities for job candidates and our partners to advance our state’s footprint in service, diversity, equity, and inclusion,” said Dr. Charlie Williams, Executive Director of the Office of Diversity Programs.

To supplement this effort, the CSC has also created a free preparatory course and assessment, designed to assist applicants in the preparation for taking the Law Enforcement Aptitude Battery (LEAB). The mentoring program is now accepting applications for the 2024 year.
