New Jersey Democratic State Committee Chairman John Currie Applauds Governor Murphy’s Decision to Push Back Primary Election to July 7

TRENTON, NJ — In response to the COVID-19/Coronavirus crisis, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has announced that the state’s primary election will be pushed back to Tuesday, July 7. The decision was made in order to protect New Jersey residents from possible exposure to COVID-19 and give candidates and election officials across the state more time to make adjustments for how the election will take place. NJDSC Chairman John Currie has released the following statement in response:

“I applaud the Governor for the remarkable job that he continues to do to protect New Jersey residents during this pandemic. He has displayed impeccable leadership and has reminded us why we are so fortunate to have him as our Governor. The Governor’s decision to delay the primary election until July 7 is without a doubt the right decision to make for public safety. This ensures that every voter will be able to exercise their right to vote without fear of endangering their health.”
