New Jersey Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association Endorses

West Caldwell, NJ — The New Jersey Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association (NJ FMBA) has endorsed Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) for a second term in Congress. The NJ FMBA advocates on behalf of firefighters, EMTs, and dispatchers across the state of New Jersey.

“I am proud to have the support of the NJ FMBA. Throughout the pandemic, our first responders have shown unparalleled bravery during our toughest moments. That is why I’ve supported Assistance to Firefighter Grants, passed legislation in the House to establish a hazard pay fund for first responders, and introduced the bipartisan SMART Act for direct state and local aid to ensure local firehouses have the resources they need to get through this crisis. I will continue to stand up for our first responders as we move forward with a new relief package,” said Congresswoman Sherrill.

The NJ FMBA was first established in 1897 by six local members. Today, there are 107 local chapters throughout New Jersey and an active membership of over 5,000 first responders. In his endorsement, President of the NJ FMBA Eddie Donnelly highlighted Rep. Sherrill’s unwavering commitment to the health and safety of the district and the needs of the NJ FMBA community.

Congresswoman Sherrill has advocated for first responders throughout her tenure in office. She has worked tirelessly to get PPE to our essential workers and funding to our hospitals, voting for both the HEROES Act and CARES Act. She fought for and succeeded in passing a permanent reauthorization of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund, to ensure first responders, survivors, and their families receive the support they need and deserve. She helped secure FEMA Assistance to Firefighter Grants for multiple towns in NJ-11. She voted to increase funding for the Firefighter Cancer Registry by an additional $900,000. Sherrill also played a key role in passing the bipartisan Restoring Tax Fairness for States and Localities Act, which provided additional tax relief for teachers and first responders.

Congresswoman Sherrill is leading the bipartisan SMART Act with Representative Peter King (R-NY) in the House and Senators Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and Bill Cassidy (R-LA) in the Senate to provide $500 billion in direct funding for state, county, and local governments.
